So, 1 down and 15 to go with a classic pre-war mystery: The Beast Must Die by Nicholas Blake, which begins: There are several challenge levels to commit to and one can of course change as it progresses – I will attempt to read 16+ eligible books before the year is out. I also believes in love at first sight, soul mates, true love, and happy endings. After the success of titles like Ultimate Spider-Man and Ultimate X-Men, Marvel took its biggest gamble yet with the line and completely revamped the Avengers into The Ultimates, the groundbreaking series from Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch that helped lay the groundwork for the MCU nearly a decade later. Started in the year 2000, the Ultimate Marvel imprint was a way for Marvel Comics to update classic characters that had been weighed down by decades of confusing continuity. In addition to being at peak human condition, Steve Rogers’ body is also able to fight off various toxins and diseases, as revealed in the pages of Ultimate Comics: Avengers. As a super-soldier, Captain America has many enhanced abilities, but one seldom discussed is his super-immune system. No one is perfect here and each character has enough flaws that the reader can easily understand why others characters may dislike him or her. And what beautifully complex characters they are. There are grand events here – the war sections, unsurprisingly – but I was surprised by how much of the novel revolves around the domestic woes of its central characters. Instead, please enjoy some slightly disjointed, rambling thoughts on a novel that I fell completely in love with as soon as I started reading. At least that is what I am hoping since I am not going to go into detail about the plot and all of the characters. Honestly, this is a book that is supposedly intimidating to read but let me tell you how much more terrifying it is to talk about.Įven if you’ve never read War and Peace, odds are you are at least vaguely familiar with it. I finished reading War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy ( translated by Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky) on February 16 th and literally every day since then I have thought about how to write this review.
